Our Surgical Oncology Clinic provides inpatient treatment services on the 3rd floor, Wards A and B, of the Oncology Hospital (T6) at Ankara Etlik City Hospital. The clinic has a capacity of 44 beds, with both single and double patient rooms.
Our medical team consists of seven surgical oncology subspecialists, including three faculty members responsible for medical education and four specialist physicians. As an accredited training clinic, our department provides subspecialty training in Surgical Oncology. In addition to our physicians, the clinical team includes 16 nurses, two medical secretaries, and four healthcare support staff members.
Outpatient Services
Our six Surgical Oncology Outpatient Clinics, located on Basement Level -1 of the Oncology Hospital, provide consultations for an average of 120 patients daily.
Our outpatient services include cancer screening and diagnostic evaluations, particularly for breast, endocrine, and gastrointestinal malignancies, as well as other cancers within the scope of surgical oncology.
We also provide care for patients referred from other healthcare institutions with suspected or ed cancer diagnoses, patients undergoing postoperative treatment and follow-up after cancer surgery, and individuals requiring surgical oncology consultations.
Surgical Services and Advanced Treatment Techniques
Our clinic performs surgical procedures in four operating rooms daily.
The majority of our surgical procedures involve breast cancer, gastrointestinal malignancies, hepatopancreatobiliary cancers, thyroid cancer, malignant skin tumors, and soft tissue sarcomas.
Our clinic utilizes advanced surgical techniques, including robotic surgery, gamma probe-guided sentinel lymph node biopsy, and oncoplastic breast surgery, reflecting significant developments in modern surgical oncology.
With the continuous integration of advanced medical technologies into our clinical practice, the number and variety of complex laparoscopic surgical procedures performed at our clinic continue to increase.
Laparoscopic and robotic approaches to gastric and colorectal cancer surgery, which are internationally established treatment options for appropriately selected patients, are successfully performed at our clinic. These minimally invasive techniques may contribute to reduced postoperative pain, improved patient comfort, and shorter recovery periods.
Our clinic also performs Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) for selected patients with extensive intra-abdominal malignancies when clinically indicated. This specialized treatment is available at a limited number of medical centers.
Additionally, gastroscopy and colonoscopy procedures are performed five days a week at our Surgical Oncology Endoscopy Unit.
As a tertiary referral center specializing in surgical oncology, our clinic performs a high proportion of complex surgical procedures. Approximately 90% of our operations fall within Categories A and B of the Turkish surgical procedure classification system.
Advanced Surgical Oncology Procedures
The major advanced surgical procedures performed at our clinic include:
1. Laparoscopic Gastric, Colon, and Rectal Surgery
Minimally invasive surgical techniques are used in the treatment of selected gastric, colon, and rectal cancers. Compared with conventional open surgery, these approaches may improve postoperative comfort, reduce pain, and shorten recovery time.
2. Robot-Assisted Surgery for Gastric, Colon, Rectal, and Pancreatic Cancers
Robot-assisted surgical techniques allow surgeons to perform complex procedures with enhanced precision and control. In appropriately selected patients, these techniques may contribute to reduced postoperative pain and faster recovery.
3. Gamma Probe-Guided Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in Breast Surgery
Sentinel lymph node biopsy is performed using gamma probe guidance to evaluate possible lymph node involvement in patients with breast cancer.
For appropriately selected patients, this technique can help avoid unnecessary extensive axillary lymph node surgery and reduce the risk of complications such as arm swelling (lymphedema), numbness, and sensory disturbances.
4. Oncoplastic Breast Surgery
Oncoplastic breast surgery combines oncological surgical principles with reconstructive techniques.
In eligible patients, this approach aims to achieve effective cancer treatment while preserving an aesthetically acceptable breast appearance and supporting postoperative quality of life.
5. Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC)
HIPEC is a specialized treatment technique that involves delivering heated chemotherapy directly into the abdominal cavity, generally during surgery, for selected patients with cancers that have spread to the peritoneum.
This approach may be considered for certain cases of colorectal cancer, ovarian cancer, peritoneal mesothelioma, and other eligible intra-abdominal malignancies.
In carefully selected patients, HIPEC may offer additional therapeutic benefits as part of a comprehensive, multidisciplinary cancer treatment plan. Its suitability and potential benefits depend on the cancer type, disease extent, and individual patient characteristics.
