Anesthesia refers to the medical procedures used to eliminate pain and sensation in the entire body or a specific region, generally before surgical interventions. It encompasses a range of techniques and practices designed to ensure that surgical procedures are performed safely and comfortably.
Our Department is a comprehensive medical center providing high-quality services in Anesthesiology and Reanimation. With a strong commitment to patient and healthcare professional safety, our department integrates scientific and technological advancements into clinical practice, medical education, research, and healthcare delivery.
Ankara Etlik City Hospital has a total of 125 operating rooms serving 13 different surgical specialties. Although interconnected within the hospital infrastructure, these operating rooms are distributed across the General Hospital, Neurology and Orthopedics Hospital, Chest and Cardiovascular Diseases Hospital, Children's Hospital, Women's Health and Maternity Hospital, and Oncology Hospital, all connected to the Diagnosis and Treatment Building.
Our anesthesiology team provides general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, and monitored anesthesia care according to the type of surgical procedure, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Anesthesia services are provided for approximately 81,000 surgical procedures annually.
In addition, our teams administer anesthesia for scheduled procedures involving both outpatients and hospitalized patients at 26 non-operating room anesthesia locations throughout the hospital complex.
At our Anesthesia Outpatient Clinics, patients referred by other departments undergo comprehensive preoperative assessments. Both outpatients and hospitalized patients are carefully evaluated, and detailed information regarding the anesthesia plan specific to their surgical procedure is provided.
In our Anesthesiology and Reanimation Intensive Care Unit, patients with existing or potential organ failure receive close monitoring, specialized treatment, and comprehensive critical care to support vital organ functions.
Our Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) provides close postoperative monitoring, medical treatment, and specialized care for patients requiring additional observation following surgical procedures.
Our Palliative Care Unit provides specialized supportive care aimed at relieving symptoms and improving the quality of life of patients living with serious illnesses.
Medical Education, Training, and Scientific Activities
In addition to providing healthcare services, our department conducts an extensive academic training program for resident physicians. This program combines practical clinical experience with theoretical education based on current scientific literature and evidence-based medical practices.
Specialized training is also provided to support preparation for national and international board certification examinations in Anesthesiology. Our department offers opportunities for physicians interested in academic research through its established scientific and clinical research infrastructure.
With the support of our hospital, our department regularly hosts and participates in scientific events organized by national and international professional associations, including seminars, courses, symposiums, and other educational activities.
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) training programs for hospital personnel are organized and conducted by our department's medical educators.
Our department is also responsible for establishing, organizing, training, and coordinating the operations of nine Code Blue response teams, which are responsible for providing rapid on-site medical intervention in the event of emergencies throughout the hospital.
Furthermore, our department provides clinical internship opportunities for students enrolled in university anesthesia technology programs, allowing them to gain practical experience with a wide range of cases, anesthetic techniques, and clinical applications.
Patient Admission and Preoperative Assessment
Patients referred to the Anesthesia Outpatient Clinics by the departments responsible for their planned procedures may register at the designated reception desks and undergo their preoperative anesthesia assessment at our Anesthesiology and Reanimation Outpatient Clinics.
