The Emergency Medicine Clinic is responsible for the initial assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of acute medical conditions that may be life-threatening or significantly affect a patient's quality of life. Emergency Medicine is a medical specialty dedicated to the prompt identification and management of urgent health problems.
In Türkiye, physicians who graduate from medical school become Emergency Medicine Specialists after successfully passing the Medical Specialty Examination (TUS) and completing four years of specialized training in Emergency Medicine.
Patients presenting to the Emergency Medicine Clinic undergo an initial assessment in the triage area and are directed to one of four designated treatment areas: Red, Yellow, Green, or Blue, according to their medical condition and level of urgency. Diagnostic examinations and treatment procedures are carried out in the appropriate areas. Patients requiring hospitalization are admitted to the relevant clinical departments.
Some of the potentially serious symptoms and medical conditions encountered in the Emergency Medicine Clinic include:
Chest pain: Heart attack (myocardial infarction), pulmonary embolism, and aortic dissection.
Shortness of breath: Pulmonary edema, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Abdominal pain: Acute appendicitis, cholecystitis, and gastric perforation.
Injuries resulting from traffic accidents.
Intentional overdose involving multiple medications.
Kidney failure.
Severe hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia.
All patients presenting to the Emergency Department undergo an initial assessment by triage nurses and are directed to the appropriate treatment areas. Patients with life-threatening conditions are immediately transferred to the Red Area, where emergency medical interventions are initiated without delay.
The primary objective of the Emergency Medicine Clinic is to identify and manage sudden, life-threatening conditions or medical emergencies that may result in loss of limb or function, with the aim of stabilizing patients and supporting their recovery.
